Contentment in life is a very good thing and certainly something to strive for. We are never in need if we learn to be content with what we have. But is there a point when trying hard to be content causes us to become complacent?

Some influences tell us not to look for more. What we have is good enough. It could be worse. The next thing may not be better. These things can all be true and we should definitely be always grateful for everything we have been given.

But sometimes there is a reason for the restlessness. That restlessness may be God’s way of telling you that he has something more for you – something more he wants you to see, learn or do. Sometimes he sets the groundwork in place and wants us to use what we’ve been given for more.

This looks different for everyone – it may be career pursuits, mission work, education, volunteer service or so many other things. Don’t let influences tell you that “this is enough” when God may be prompting you to look for more. He does not want us to become complacent – He wants us to continue pursuing Him.

“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13b-14)
